A Heartwarming Christmas Tale

I love Christmas for being a family time and for being able to give to others.  I took my 7 year old daughter to see the new movie A Christmas Carol a couple of days ago and once again was struck by mans capacity for being able to help others who are less fortunate.  Christmas time embodies this message like no other time of year!

When I got home from the movie I checked my emails to find one from Jay Kubassek.  Jay had received an email from a mom called Melanie and she in it she explained to him that she desperately needed help for her daughter Jessica.  Jessica needed $18,384 by the same day to cover her college fees for the new semester.  Previous funding had come from a scholarship but due to the current economic climate the funds were not longer available.  The family did not have this money and as she is Jamaican she did not qualify for financial aid or a loan.  In short she had no where else to turn.  Her mom Melanie had faith that her prayers would be answered and asked the college for a 24 hour extension to find the money.

As a successful business man Jay gets many requests for help and this is one that touched him.  He immediately sent out an email to the top producers in the company asking for help and then he started the fund with a $3,000 donantion from himself and his wife.  The VP of leadership and development John Jackson then put out a request for help on his daily ‘wake up call’ – Johns parting shot on every call is ‘try to do something for someone today knowing that there is no way that they can repay you’.  This was one way that members could put this into practice – and they did!

Within the 24 hour deadline that Jessica had to find her funds she not only had then but the college had received them.

It makes me very proud to be a part of this community knowing that they reach out at a moments notice to help others – by being successful in themselves allows the members to selflessly and effortlessly help others.  Jessica and her mom got their prayers answered for Christmas because they had faith and were persisitent in finding a way.
