How To Beat The Competition – How To Run A Successful Home Business

1995 I took a decision to change my life. At that time I was a well paid Pharmaceutical Rep with a very nice salary, bonuses, expense account, car & who went to conferences in warm foreign countries. But, despite all these attractive trimmings my life on the corporate treadmill was not what or where I wanted it to be. I would sit in ‘important’ sales meeting & conferences & think ‘this is really not important to me in my life’.

I retrained as a Massage Therapist taking extra courses to learn Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage & Reiki Healing. All this was at the time when therapies were right on the cusp of being trendy & popular. The courses I took were always well subscribed with enthusiastic & gifted students all eager to change their lives &careers to something more fulfilling & useful to mankind. I joined a national professional association & went along eagerly to monthly meetings held by a local group & yet again these meetings were full of students & new therapists trying to get a business off the ground. Yet, as the months went by I began to notice that there was not a great deal of continuity with members, they came & they went & the new members who replaced them came & went too.
In fact over a 2 year period there were only 2 or 3 of us who had stayed the course. There were only 2 or 3 of us who had actually managed to make our business a success & made it pay. A year or so later I went into teaching & I saw first hand how many students took the courses hoping to make a living out of their new skills yet they never truly got off the ground.
So, I asked myself the question , ‘what did we do that the others did not’?

I analysed just what it was that we were doing different to everyone else & there were common threads running through for each of us.
We never stopped learning something new & valuable not only to ourselves but to our clients, so we could position ourselves as leaders & experts. We provided extra value to our clients by being able to offer expert advice. We kept updating our skills & learned new ones & invested time & money in ourselves.
We all worked with professionalism & integrity & if we thought a client would benefit more from someone else’s skills we passed them on rather than keeping them just to make a sale. We worked alongside other professionals in both our own fields & others helping each other not viewing each other as the enemy competitor.
I always put my client needs before my need of making money & the money/business just flowed through to me. My clients became regulars who not only ‘bought’ from me time &time again but they also recommended me to their family & friends.
I used to say that if I could make a difference to just 1 person per week then my time had been well spent. More than 1 & I was ecstatic. We each carved our own niche as reliable trustworthy professionals & the word spread quickly.
I kept my ‘list’ engaged by sending out regular newsletters & special offers, again I was offering value. None of us needed to rely on paid advertising for new clients as our reputations with existing clients did this for us.
In short we all practised ‘Attraction Marketing’ long before the name existed & all had thriving profitable businesses where the majority failed.

So, when I came into Internet Marketing 16 months ago I began to reapply these principles as I slowly began to learn my new trade. Along the way I discovered Mike Dillard & his Magnetic Sponsoring, here was a book that described what I had been doing & what I was doing. I am very grateful to him for putting these principles into a structured method.

Instead of working face to face with my clients & customers as I did then, I now work across the globe from them using my computer. I use resources & sites such as Youtube, I write articles, emails, tweet on Twitter.com, attend Webinars, write on my blog & websites. Yet the same principles apply; I learn things for myself & then pass on & share my knowledge & experiences. I help others to make their lives better & richer &more fulfilling so that in turn they can pass this on to others too.

The world has changed greatly in the last 15 years with the advent of the internet. The principles remain the same, if you can give unconditionally without want or need for yourself & if you can be of value to others, then they will flock to you without you ever needing to go out & find them. People will recognise that you have something of value for them & they will reward you for your help. The more you can let go of your own needs & wants & the more you focus on others, the more you will get back in return.
The world is truly a wonderful place & by moving your focus away from ‘lack’ & placing it on abundance & others, magic can happen.
